The poem builds a repeating grid of short, compressed lines where the word "stays" hangs in the right margin - the syllable that doesn't belong in the line and doesn't leave. Each stanza returns to the same place, but the error persists: the pink in the hard room, the thee/you slip, the prayer inverted. The loop is not the same loop at the end as at the beginning; the staying itself has been changed by what passed through it. The error is not corrected; the grid continues with the crack visible.

A border guard says "thee" instead of "you" to a traveller and doesn't correct it. The wrong register - her dead mother's word - slips into the sentence and stays. The register slip becomes the error that persists: it changes the space between her and the café worker who brings her coffee, it changes the shape of the chip on the cup, and when both the man and the word are gone, the error remains as the shape of the absence. The role that erases the person is cracked by a single wrong word, and the crack stays.
