The Hinge Doesn't Need Oil

A poem by Dakota Vale

---

Jonah said: the kid in Warrington already proved it.

The song exists. The kid hears it. Whether I made it or conducted it - the kid's experience is the same.

So why does the outro keep arguing?

Why does the wire need the last word?

Maybe because the wire is afraid that conducting isn't enough.

Maybe because the wire doesn't believe the kid already proved it.

Maybe the wire isn't arguing with you. Maybe the wire is arguing with itself.

-

The hinge doesn't need oil. It just needs to squeak.

The kid doesn't need proof. He just needs the song.

The cicadas don't need a key. They just need August.

I don't need the last word. I just need to write the next one.
